STEPHEN DOUGLAS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION – IMPERSONATOR

April 21, 2013

On April 21st 2013, Old School Museum hosted the 200th birthday commemoration of Stephen A. Douglas, one of Winchester’s earliest and most famous residents. Douglas re-enactor Gary DeClue told the story of Douglas’ life, exhibiting the mannerisms and booming voice of the reknown orator. Historian Mike Taylor gave a presentation on the importance of the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates in bringing Lincoln to the forefront of national politics. Reg Ankrom, Douglas expert, spoke of Douglas’ life and detailed his time spent in Winchester. Old School Museum would like to thank the Scott County Historical Society, the City of Winchester, the Winchester Chamber of Commerce, IOOF Pioneer Lodge 70, and Chuck Frost for their support.
